The Aveeno brand, part of the Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products Company, has announced a new eco-conscious effort with TerraCycle, an eco-friendly product manufacturer, that’s designed to educate consumers on the importance of reducing waste and helping the environment. The program is an extension of the Aveeno Inspires campaign, which the company established three years ago.
The mission of the program is to give new life to empty Aveeno product tubes by “upcycling” the material into eco-friendly items that will then be available for purchase at retailers nationwide, thus offering consumers the opportunity to “reuse” Aveeno products. The partnership offers communities a chance to make sustainable strides through “Aveeno Beauty Brigades,” which are currently being formed across the country to collect empty Aveeno product tubes including all of the elongated tubes from sun care, facial care, baby and body care products. For each tube received by TerraCycle, the Aveeno brand will pay two cents to the non-profit organization or school of one's choice or to the featured charity, The Skin Cancer Foundation.
“We are incredibly proud of the progress the Aveeno brand has made in terms of sustainability,” says Michael Marquis, group product director for the Aveeno brand. “We continue to look for ways to improve our eco-conscious practices, from how we source ingredients and packaging materials, to reducing waste and resources needed for product transport. It's through our collaboration with partners like TerraCycle that makes it possible for us to expand our commitment to sustainability, giving back to the community and improving our environment.”
