Christian Louboutin has disrupted the Color Cosmetics market with his packaging for nail and lipstick packaging. Now the designer has done the same for eye makeup, introducing a number of products including Les Yeux Noirs Lash Amplifying Lacquer mascara, Oeil VinyleLuminous Ink Liner, Oeil Velours Velvet Eye Definer, and Brow Definer. The collection will appear in stores on March 23.
To enhance the feature he considers most expressive, Louboutin says he set out to create a collection of imaginative and expert tools.
The collection is described as combining “sensual application with the intensely rich color and attention to detail expected from the designer.” Luxurious and uniquely slender,
each product provides a precise and sensual gesture similar to that of calligraphy.
As with his previous cosmetics collections, Louboutin drew inspiration from ancient civilizations, in this case, one of his beauty icons, Queen Nefertiti, with her infamous sculpted eyes – a nude lid precisely lined with carbon black charcoal liner. The designer delved further into the symbolism of ancient Egypt for the creation of the remarkable packaging: the Egyptian motifs of lotus flower petals and obelisks meld with Art Deco geometry to create these modern objets
d’arts.
He looked to India to develop the formulas for the intensely pigmented products that “coat lashes in plush lacquer, define lids in dark ink, and perfect brows with pigment-rich colour.”
Products include:
—Les Yeux Noirs ($70), an amplifying lacquer mascara (SHOWN) that’s designed with a brush uniquely comprised of both vertical and horizontal bristles to lift and shape even the smallest
lashes. This “jewel” is made of intricately ribbed brass reminiscent of Art Deco architecture. Its gold silhouette is topped with a delicate black shiny crown dressed in spikes. Les Yeux Noirs is encased in a jewelry-like box.
— Oeil Vinyle ($75) is a luminous ink liner inspired by patent leather, but with a soft and flexible texture. The faceted liner references the clean lines of Christian’s original Nail Colour, an homage to calligraphy. Its innovative flocked applicator delivers excellent colour payoff and precision. It is available in several colors including Louboutin’s iconic Rouge Louboutin.
—Oeil Velours ($40) features a slender, weighted body in a custom length to provide the most artful application. It is coated in a luxurious matte black and topped with a studded gold cap for an ultra-precious look and feel. This velvet eye definer is accessorized with a sharpener to ensure precision.
—Brow Definer ($40) is a versatile brow pencil for defining, shaping and filling eyebrows. Its soft formula glides on easily yet provides full coverage with a matte finish for the most accurate brow primping and long-lasting wear. The Brow Definer is accessorized with a spoolie brush to comb brows and sharpener to ensure precision. It is coated in a luxurious matte black and topped with a studded gold cap.
