Kayali, a new fragrance collection available at Huda Beauty and Sephora, launched a new perfume today—Kayali Sweet Diamond Pepper 25. And, it’s metallic pink.
Why the number 25? Because it contains 25% oil—a concentration typically synonymous with fragrance parfums or extraits, making it Kayali’s first “intense” long-lasting scent.
Twenty-five is also the number of rounds of formula modifications it took to create “the perfect balance of flirtatious and sweet,” the brand says.
The Kayali collection includes five other fragrances—Musk 12, Vanilla 28, Elixer 11, Citrus 08 and Deja Vu White Flower 57. Each number refers to the number of formulation rounds it took to create each.
Mona Kattan, ‘Perfume Princess’
Mona Kattan, Huda Kattan’s sister, is the ‘official’ founder of Kayali fragrances—but, like the Kardashians, the famous siblings seem to do everything together. The Kattan duo co-founded Huda Beauty—but Huda is the face of the makeup brand, while Mona is set to become social media's ‘perfume princess.’Kayali Sweet Diamond Pepper 25 is the brand’s sixth fragrance. It’s inspired by Mona Kattan’s fascination with the pink pepper note. “Scent is sacred in the Middle East," Kayali's PR rep states. And it's important to Kattan—she has a collection of 3,500 perfumes at her home in Dubai.
Sweet Diamond Pink Pepper is a modern take on the Pink Pepper scent, balancing fresh florals with aromatic woody notes. It opens with Pink Pepper, bergamot, royal lily, and saffron. Bulgarian rose, rose centifolia, magnolia, and vanilla orchid are the middle notes. The fragrance ends with sandalwood, patchouli, sensual musk, and golden amber.
Perfume Inspired By A Trip To Grasse
Kayali means ‘my imagination’ in Arabic—and each scent aims to tell a story of “the feeling” behind its development, and customer.Discussing Sweet Diamond Pepper 25, Gabriela Chelariu, senior perfumer at Firmenich, says, “This creation was a true collaboration between Mona and her team that began almost three years ago. This fragrance embodies a woman who knows her own worth and isn’t afraid to be noticed,” she says.
While visiting Firmenich in Grasse in 2018, Kattan says she first became aware of the complex Pink Pepper note during a fragrance-smelling session—and was fascinated by its performance and olfactive impression. “It is spicy and fresh, but also deeply aromatic,” she says.
Educating Consumers on Layering Scents
All of Kayali’s fragrances are “intelligently designed to be layered and combined,” the brand says, so consumers can create a unique signature scent.Kattan is a master of layering scents—and often wears 15 to 20 at one time. “I have a trolley of fragrances next to me, I am testing non-stop,” she told The Telegraph.
Kattan shares her favorite layering combinations. “Try Vanilla 28 underneath Sweet Diamond Pink Pepper 25 for a warm, gourmand floral sillage that will transport you to sweet dreams,” she says. Or, she adds, “Lovers will want to layer Sweet Diamond Pink Pepper 25 with Musk 12, creating a soft, delicate balance that is sultry and sensual.”
The Packaging

What’s Next?
Is Mona Kattan setting her sights on conquering the fragrance world—just like Huda Beauty is doing for makeup?Selling perfume on social media is an entirely different ballgame. “You have to explain how it will make you feel, you can’t show any obvious ‘before’ and ‘afters’ like you can with makeup or skincare. It’s a big learning curve…” she told The Telegraph.
We’re confident she’ll figure it out.
