With a focus on sustainability and safety in both quality ingredients and packaging, Henry Rose, a direct-to-consumer line of fine fragrances founded by Michelle Pfeiffer, has launched with five distinct, genderless scents. Setting a new transparency standard, 100% of the ingredients are disclosed.
Henry Rose was created based on what the brand calls “the strictest health, safety, and environmental standards set forth by two industry leading non-profit organizations”—the Environmental Working Group and Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. It is the first fine fragrance to receive the distinction of EWG Verified and Cradle to Cradle Certified at the Gold level, with a Material Health score of Platinum.
Pfeiffer, who sits on the board of EWG, says she began this journey over a decade ago after struggling to find a fragrance that she could feel good about wearing, both for the safety of the ingredients and the scents themselves.
Pfeiffer worked with International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) to develop the fragrances, and with Verescence, on sourcing its packaging materials from sustainable or renewable resources wherever possible. Each full-size bottle is made from Verescence’s NEO-Infinite glass (90% recycled, 100% recyclable), the caps are made from soy, and the secondary packaging is from a bio-based, biodegradable and compostable paper alternative.
