Please spend a few minutes with Samhwa’s national sales director Vince McCarthy as he chats with BP’s Jamie Matusow about Samhwa’s recent successes and plans for the future.
Jamie Matusow: What is Samhwa’s secret to its long tenure in the channel?
Vince McCarthy: Simple. We treat all our brand partners with the same respect and diligence. Large or small, each partner gets our full attention and commitment. While this may seem obvious, we constantly hear from our newer/smaller clients how they feel like they’ve been with us for years.
Samhwa supports our larger partnerships by making our production line available to test NEW package concepts or entirely NEW products in small run quantities. Large partners have a constant need to innovate. They rely heavily on Samhwa to bring new ideas or stand ready to build new concepts. These partners see Samhwa as an extension of their R&D process.
JM: Any other competitive advantages?
VM: Absolutely! Advantages include:
- Low MOQs with short lead times: Samhwa partners with many Indies who have great ideas but just aren’t poised to run high quantities. These Indies recognize and even pioneer NEW industry trends. They are super nimble and able to leverage the nuance of the changing landscape. Samhwa’s entrepreneurial culture allows us to stay closely aligned with their goals. They are also wonderfully loyal once they find their Hero product.
- Fast production turnarounds: Samhwa prides itself on as little as 4 weeks for a 10k piece manufacturing turn.
- Unmatched tooling capabilities: From concept to commercialization is 3 months.
JM: What is the biggest market change Samhwa has seen since Covid ended?
VM: The Direct to Manufacturer relationship. Covid not only forced everyone out of the office, but also forced the discovery of new sourcing channels. Without a doubt, we’ve seen a significant jump in the number of calls and inquiries from clients who previously relied on agents for sourcing.
Significant COGs improvement is not just the only benefit of working directly with Samhwa: Samhwa’s end-to-end Total Concept platform offers our clients robust design concepts, prototype build and quality finished products. Large NEW client growth migrating from agencies for package development and design is a natural follow-on.
JM: Consumers are demanding luxury, refillable, PCR sustainable innovation. What can you share with us about new developments?
VM: The “New Normal” in Beauty, including:
- The Samhwa Eco Pump is the very core of our pumping systems engineering advances. The Eco pumping system developed in modular form is now available as the common engine featured across Samhwa’s Airless and Dispensing products dosing in 5 sizes (.15cc, .2cc, .3cc, 2.0cc, 3.5cc) It’s perfect for skincare as well as larger volume bottles such as body wash and shampoo.
- Airless Glass Refillable: Samhwa’s unique refillable airless products specifically target the channel’s need for leading edge eco-friendly design and function. Our patented glass airless bottle and jar systems combine the exceptionally luxe feel of glass wonderfully matched to all PP sustainable componentry.
- Patented: Our glass airless bottle system is patented on the functional simplification of the filling and replacement process. Our inner bottle and pump attachment process is perfectly aligned with the customers’ intuitive expectation of how to refill.
- Commitment to PCR-based products: Less NEW plastic in the stream is our goal. Samhwa has strategic partnerships within the rapidly evolving resin manufacturer channel. Our access to the newest and most advanced material supply chains means our clients can design by incorporating PCR in far more ways than they are currently aware. Samhwa has redefined industry standards, retooling factories and equipment to meet these challenges. Many of Samhwa’s products are 50% PCR-based, with our target to reach 100% shortly.
JM: What does the future hold for Samhwa?
VM: Sustainable innovation. As the industry redefines what it means to be sustainable, Samhwa strides to lead in that new definition. Combining material supplier partnerships, brand input and direction as well as global regulations, Samhwa will always innovate toward an improved consumer experience and formula protection. These are Samhwa’s foundational goals, from which we will never stray.
