Estée Lauder Cosmetics Ltd., Toronto, spent approximately two years and $3 million to renovate the 28,000-square-foot research, development and manufacturing facility.
At the Color Innovation Center scientists combine pigments, pearls and conditioners with finishing bases to create shades and test different ingredients that result in eye shadows, blushes, foundations, mascaras and lip products. Approximately 50 shades will be created every month.
The Innovation Center’s research scientists will focus on:
- expanding color shades, product finishes and application methods
- discovering ways to enhance color products, such as incorporating SPF protection
- implementing new techniques to identify creative combinations of materials
- providing specialized analytical techniques to test and respond to temperature changes in the look and feel of make-up
- coordinating consumer testing with make-up artists across the Company’s brands
“Innovation is key to our company’s ongoing success and this center will be integral in creating exciting and relevant products for our important makeup category,” said William P. Lauder, chief executive officer, The Estée Lauder Companies.
