Preparations are underway for the 11th Annual Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors (ICMAD) Young Designers’ Competition. The competition attracts students from six elite academic institutions across the nation vying for the prestigious award, and highlights their talent in personal care packaging. Participating schools include the American Academy of Art, Chicago, IL; the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL; the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM), Los Angeles, CA; the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, NY; Miami International University of Art & Design, Miami, FL; and Savannah College of Art & Design, Savannah, GA.
Three awards for a total of $5,000 will be presented at an awards dinner on September 16, 2009 (the second day of the HBA Global Expo) in New York City at Twenty Four Fifth Restaurant. Five distinguished cosmetic industry professionals will serve as judges for the competition: John Collier of Susan M. Rafaj Marketing Services Inc., Santo Fareri of SRF Design Ltd., Gregg Lukasiewicz of Lukasiewicz Design Inc. Kenneth Noskin of Ideate, and Rick Prater of Rick Prater Design. Judging criteria for packaging include uniqueness, ability to be reproduced economically and use and storage accessibility.
Susan M. Rafaj of Susan M. Rafaj Marketing Services Inc. provided the judging venue and Mana Products provided the materials.
ICMAD’s Young Designers’ Competition was created in 1999 to encourage and develop young creative talent that will build the cosmetic industry in the future.
