When Justin Bieber recently unveiled his first women's fragrance, Someday, the juice's scent wasn't the only thing that had the beauty world intrigued. The teen heartthrob's perfume bottle instantly drew comparisons to Marc Jacobs' award-winning Lola bottle, particularly its exaggerated petal-shaped top, as well as he purple-tinted glass and pink rose cap. And while there was some speculation about the possibility of litigation, it appears there will be no lawsuit.
In an interview with Bridget Foley, of WDD, the designer, who will receive the CFDA's Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award next week, was asked about the likeness of the perfumes bottles.
Jacobs said, "Yep, yep. We just had a conversation about it. Coty said, 'Do we sue them?' and I said, You know what? Let everyone else say what they want. I received Google [Alerts] about people saying it was derivative. We're not going to do anything about it."
Jacobs continues, "But you know, I look around the room and I look at the work we've done and a quote I always bastardize but I really believe in, is something Chanel said: "He who insists on his own creativity has no memory."
