Britney Spears, the 29-year-old American pop superstar, is being sued for more than $10 million by a licensing firm that helped to launch the singer's fragrance line. Spears and her father are accused of being in breach of contract, and a hearing has been set for July 11, according to CBS News.
Brand Sense Partners filed the suit at the Los Angeles Superior Court on May 20, 2011, and want the singer to submit written testimony in the case before she embarks on her upcoming world tour in July. In the complaint obtained by TMZ, Brand Sense claim they brokered the pop star's deal with cosmetics giant Elizabeth Arden in 2004. The company claims they stood to receive 35% commission on any Spears-branded fragrances bought, but that the singer told Arden to send all royalties to her instead.
The lawsuit also alleges that Britney's father said the 35% commission was too high and that his daughter was unwilling to pay it. The licensing firm alleges that the singer, "secretly made a separate deal with Elizabeth Arden in a sneaky, under-handed effort to circumvent and evade its obligations to Brand Sense."
The July hearing will take place just five days before Britney Spears kicks off her North American tour in Sacramento, CA.
