Manufacturers like Procter & Gamble and Unilever are hoping that the practical gift set will be a big seller this holiday season, according to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal.
Gift sets include combo packs like deodorant, body wash and hair products. The paper reports that as basic personal-care products have become more upscale, they are “increasingly being sold as accessible luxuries—and an easy present for your cousin or dog walker.”
The report also states that following strong sales of gift sets last year, “some product manufacturers and retailers are retooling them, offering less-expensive varieties and more mundane options like disposable razors, shampoo and toothpaste. Their goal is to entice consumers to try a wider variety of their brands and products. They are borrowing a holiday-marketing tactic that premium cosmetic brands like Estée Lauder started decades ago.”
