Procter & Gamble hosted its 3rd ponytail donation event yesterday afternoon in the Tower Gardens at its offices in Cincinnati, Ohio. Over 400 hair pieces were collected for the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program. Free real-hair wigs will be created for women undergoing cancer treatments.
The event kicked-off the countdown to the 2nd “National Donate Your Hair Day” taking place on September 7, 2013, to benefit the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program. Pantene and Seventeen magazine are partnering to continue this annual day of giving where people nationwide are encouraged to cut and donate their hair.
Walter Geiger, General Manager and Vice President of North American Hair Care at Procter & Gamble, was in attendance to support the program and provided the opening remarks. “The goal of the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program is to truly make a difference, and is a wonderful example of how we bring the company’s purpose to life"
Geiger continued, "We also understand the unbelievable role hair plays in a woman’s life and how it provides self-confidence and maintains one’s self-esteem; therefore, we decided to create a program that provides free real-hair wigs to women undergoing cancer treatments. I believe our philanthropic efforts help to improve lives, and allow us to come together and make a difference.”
Since 2006, Pantene Beautiful Lengths has received nearly 500,000 hair donations from generous men, women, and children. The American Cancer Society distributes the wigs through their nationwide network of wig banks at no cost. Since the start of the program, 28,000 real-hair wigs have been provided to female cancer patients.
