According to The Economic Times of India, it appears that The Estee Lauder Companies is about to get more serious about increasing its ownership percentage in Forest Essentials, a premium Indian skin- and hair care brand. Lauder reportedly acquired a 20% stake in Forest Essentials in 2008 for an undisclosed amount. The Times reports that the Indian firm is currently undergoing a due diligence process by financial consultancy firm Deloitte before Lauder increases its investment.
Greater involvement by Lauder will enable Forest Essentials to expand internationally, though according to The Times, the Indian firm will remain in majority control.
Founded in 2000 by Mira Kulkarni, Forest Essentials produces products from natural ingredients in Uttaranchal. It has been growing at a compounded annual rate of 40%, according to The Times report, and operates 30 exclusive company stores.
