A class action lawsuit is pending against Hain Celestial Group - naming Avalon Organics and JASON Brand Cosmetics for packaging and advertising that is misleading to consumers, and in violation of the Califormia Organic Products Act.

The Califormia Organic Products Act requires that cosmetic products advertised, marketed, sold, labeled, or represented as organic in California be made of at least 70 percent organic ingredients. 

The statement was issued by Lexington Law Group, which said that the packaging and advertising for these products is misled consumers, since the products are not made with mostly organic ingredients. The issue has not been settled yet, and the lawyers' statement also says that the brands deny these allegations.

Avalon Organics' products have all carried the NSF/ANSI certification seal since 2012, which is an American National Standard written specifically for personal care products containing organic ingredients. The standard establishes the materials, processes, production criteria, conditions and labeling claims for personal care products claiming to "contain organic content". To be certified, all formulas must contain a minimum of 70% organic content.
