A religious preference for halal products in Saudi Arabia, which is predominantly a Muslim populated country, is a strong factor in driving demand, according to a recent report from Research and Markets, "Saudi Arabia Halal Cosmetics Market Forecast and Opportunities 2020." The study shows that the halal cosmetics market in Saudi Arabia is projected to grow at a CAGR of over 15% during the next five years, due to increasing access, rising consumer awareness and consumers’ willingness to pay more for high-quality halal cosmetic products.
Halal cosmetics are skin and body care products that are free from materials forbidden by the Islamic Law. Therefore, blood from any animal, pork and pork products as well as alcoholic constituents are not incorporated in manufacturing of these cosmetics. With halal cosmetics more available, the Islamic population in Saudi Arabia is showing a growing preference for cosmetic products free from materials prohibited under the Islamic Law. In addition, growing health concerns due to harmful effects of ingredients used in manufacturing cosmetics is increasing demand for halal cosmetics, not only among Muslims but also non-Muslim population in the country. Research and Markets also found that non-halal cosmetic sales are rising among non-Muslims.
In 2014, halal fragrances and skin care products accounted for the largest share of the country's halal cosmetics market.
Some of the major brands offering halal cosmetics market in Saudi Arabia include Inika, One Pure, LLC, FX Cosmetics, Clara International Beauty Group and Samina Pure Minerals Makeup Ltd.
More companies are focusing on accommodating the growing preference for halal cosmetics products in the country.
