It seems that Jay-Z is in trouble, over his fragrance deal. Perfumania Holdings has filed a $20 million dollar lawsuit against the celebrity for failing to promote his fragrance, Jay-Z Gold.
Jay-Z, aka Shawn Carter, had agreed to make promotional appearances, but never did, according to reports, including the story in the New York Daily News.
A lawyer for Parlux stated in court papers that they worked with the infamous Jacob the Jeweler to design five new prototype bottles with gold caps, with bottles that were drizzled in gold - and worth $20k each. According to reports, Jay-Z rejected the new designs, yet kept one of the expensive prototypes.
The fragrance, Jay-Z Gold, is shown above. It first launched in 2014 and did well, before sales stalled in 2015. It seems that Parlux had plans to launch flankers in an effort to grow the brand, including Gold Jay Z Noir, Gold Jay Z Parish Lights, and Gold Jay Z London Underground. It is also being reported that the team at Parlux attempted to work with Jay-Z to approve carton designs and new packaging, but the new fragrances and brand extensions never got off the ground, causing the company to lose money - plus all the time and effort put into developing the brand.
