It’s been called “a bouquet that’s fit for a queen.” The Palace of Versailles has collaborated with Guerlain, one of Paris’s oldest perfume houses, to launch Le Bouquet de la Reine (“The Queen’s Bouquet”), an exclusive limited-edition fragrance. The beautiful handmade flacon and scent were designed “to capture the opulence of the palace as well as its constant rebirth over the centuries.” The proceeds will go toward renovating the sprawling landmark, which is one of France’s most popular destinations.
In line with the luxuriousness of the palace, the perfume is priced at 550€. Purchasers have only one month (until May 17, 2016) to apply for a bottle, which was designed to “look like a work of art, in itself.” It was crafted to resemble a precious stone, draped in lavish fabrics and solid gold. For the occasion, Guerlain brought back its Quadrilobe flacon, originally created in 1908 for the maison’s emblematic perfume Rue de la Paix.
The fragrance is described as recalling “the delightful balmy scents of the sumptuous Versailles gardens,” and was designed by Thierry Wasser, in-house perfumer at Guerlain since 2008. Le Bouquet de la Reine was inspired by Marie-Antoinette, whose favorite flower was said to be jasmine. Wasser also added notes of bergamot, lily, amber and white musk to his creation.
