Gender-neutral, unisex scents are trending, and Chanel is about to launch its first - Boy Chanel. It debuts this week in Paris, and then wider distribution in June.
The fragrance was created by Olivier Polge, who says he intended to create a very masculine scent that women would want to wear. It contains lavender, rose geranium, lemon, grapefruit, rose, orange blossom, sandalwood, heliotropin, vanilla and musk.
Polge commented, “My way of working on this fragrance was really not to try to make a unisex fragrance but really more to dive into men’s fragrance…and to show how well it could be worn by a woman,,,So it was not to try to create an in-between fragrance, but a very masculine fragrance. And — like many other things in life — gender is given by the person wearing it.”
The scent is named after Arthur Capel - his nickname was "Boy." He was Gabrielle Chanel's lover and benefactor, according to WWD.
