Burt's Bees headquarters in Durham, North Carolina, now has an unusual attraction -- the original rustic cabin that belonged to the company's namesake and co-founder, Burt Shavitz. Shavitz, who passed away in 2015, was a beekeeper who lived in the cabin in rural Maine.
The cabin, which is open to the public, has been restored to its original condition and displays personal artifacts. Visitors can learn more about Shavitz using a digital footage viewfinder, in vintage casing, made in collaboration with Google. The viewfinder enables visitors standing on the cabin's front porch to be immersed in the sights and sounds of the beautiful Maine countryside that Shavitz woke up to every day.
Jim Geikie, General Manger, Burt's Bees, says, "Burt was a living embodiment of our purpose to connect people to the wisdom, power and beauty of nature. A year after his passing, Burt's life is a potent reminder for all of us that we can't lose sight of our relationship with nature."
All visitors will receive a complimentary Beeswax Lip Balm, the first personal care product created by Burt's Bees' founders in 1991, and a Res-Q Ointment, Shavitz's personal favorite product.
