NaturallyCurly's signature event, Texture On The Runway, marked its third appearance during New York Fashion Week on September 7th.
Sally Beauty sponsored the runway show, which took place at Gotham Hall in Manhattan’s garment district. More than 700 influencers, media and VIPs filled the seats.
Naturally Curly’s co-founder, Michelle Breyer, served as host along with pro-hairstylist Monica Stevens of MoKnowsHair. The “stars” of the show were hair care brands that specialize in styling products for curly locks.

Cantu, Carol's Daughter, Creme of Nature, Mielle Organics and SheaMoisture were the “stars” of the show. These brands specialize in hair care and hair styling products for textured and curly locks. Pro-stylists worked with models to create each brand’s unique vision for textured hair. The supporting brand partners included: Aphogee, Ardell Beauty, Jamaican Mango & Lime, Silk Elements and Proclaim.
Breyer comments, "Although more brands and designers are embracing texture, traditionally Fashion Week has been a reminder for many women that their beauty is not the right kind of beauty. For years, we have been working to change that conversation — and it's so important for Texture On The Runway to take place at New York Fashion Week every year. Because representation matters.”
NaturallyCurly spreads the word to women to embrace texture through original and branded content on its digital platform, which helps connect the consumer with brands and retailers.
Curly Hair Brands on the Runway
Cantu’s global artist @TheMariaAntoinette styled notable influencers. Cantu also promoted its two new collections, for kids and men.
The Carol's Daughter Education team created looks inspired by key events in Brooklyn, the brand’s hometown. Each look was based on one of three themes, Street Style, Summer Festivals and Caribbean Culture. The team created edgy looks that included afros, braids and curly locs, using Carol's Daughter Pracaxi Nectar collection.
Creme of Nature spread the message that women should embrace their textured, natural hair. Celebrity hairstylist Pekela Riley led the team that created cutting-edge hairstyles aimed to encourage naturalistas to boldly show off their curls, coils, kinks and waves.
The team from Curlformers created “Bohemian Chic” looks using its hair styling tool that adds definition, volume, and length without using heat.
The team from Mielle Organics used its new Pomegranate & Honey Collection to give models with thick, curly hair extra curl definition — along with intense moisture and hydration. The brand’s hairstyles were based on the theme, “Cranes in the Sky,” inspired by singer Solange Knowles. Models walked the runway wearing gold body paint. The brand states, “We took a creative approach to embracing natural hair in different forms, from braids, pompadours, and more with an artistic element.”
Shea Moisture made a statement on the runway with braided hairstyles. The brand stated: “We unleashed the Braid Revv-olution: avant-garde, runway-worthy braided hairstyles – from editorial and couture to more conventional – to elevate SheaMoisture's core community in the beauty and fashion space.”
