As Americans protest racial injustice since George Floyd’s tragic death, and as beauty brands take a stand, showing their support on social media -- beauty editors are helping promote racial equality by featuring black-owned beauty brands in online stories.
Vogue posted "55 Black-Owned Fashion and Beauty Brands," while Cosmo's list is more inclusive with "125 Best Black-Owned Beauty Brands To Support Right Freakin’ Now."
But the most comprehensive article so far -- and useful resource -- this public Google Doc spreadsheet created by Fashionista's beauty director Stephanie Saltzman.
Saltzman posted on Instagram: “Black creatives, entrepreneurs, chemists, models, artists, editors, influencers, creators, founders & consumers are the lifeblood of the beauty & wellness industries. There are innumerable Black-owned & founded beauty and wellness brands that deserve attention, support & money.”
Saltzman continues, “My hope is that shoppers will consult it whenever they consider where to spend their dollars, yes, but also that it may serve as a resource for myself & fellow beauty editors putting together product roundups, for investors looking for new business ventures, for retailers seeking brands to stock, for influencers looking for brands to spotlight & for social media users (aka anyone who follows me here!) wanting to see more Black-owned beauty businesses in their feeds.”
