Oprah Winfrey's OWN network and HULU are partnering to launch The Hair Tales—a docuseries focusing on black women, beauty, and identity—and how our hair represents who we are.
Tracee Ellis Ross, founder of Pattern Beauty, is executive producer, Variety reports, and Michaela Angela Davis, co-author of The Meaning of Mariah Carey, created the series concept.
Ross stated, "Like many women, I can trace my own journey to self-acceptance through my hair."
Davis adds, “There is a story in every curl, coil and kink of our hair. This show...will affirm Black women, inform others and inspire everyone,”
The Hair Tales will debut on OWN and on Hulu’s Onyx channel in 2022. Hulu's Onyx Collective is a brand for underrepresented voices on Hulu, including creators of color.
The docuseries is produced by Joy Mill Entertainment, Culture House, Tretravision and Harpo Films.
Tara Duncan, president of Freeform and the Onyx Collective, is also executive producer, with Raeshem Nijhon and Carri Twigg, founding partners of Culture House.
