Smashbox is introducing four new shades of Becca's Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter on June 1st. The original was Champagne Pop—and the new colors are:
- Opal
- Moonstone
- Rose Quartz
- Chocolate Geode
Estee Lauder Companies (ELC) announced it was shutting down Becca Cosmetics last September. But—Smashbox (also an ELC brand) saved Becca's cult-favorite Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in Champagne Pop, along with a few other products, under its Smashbox x Becca collection.
Shimmering Skin Perfector is the #1 best-selling highlighter in the U.S., according to the NPD Group U.S. Prestige Beauty Total Measured Market, Makeup Product Sales report, for the 12 months ending May 2021.
"We knew a good thing before it was gone," said Davis Factor, founder and SVP of global creative at Smashbox Cosmetics. "BECCA was born from light, and so was Smashbox – so while it's personal, collectively, we felt preserving the brand's legacy was our only option."
Lori Taylor Davis, global pro lead artist at Smashbox Cosmetics, adds, "It wasn't just about adoption for us, but also evolution. The formulas speak for themselves, but we wanted to raise their voice – as a pro artistry brand, developing the shade extensions was both an instinctive choice and labor of love, and we're proud to keep telling the story."
Becca first launched its iconic highlighters after a collaboration with Jaclyn Hill—and sales of Shimmering Skin Perfector, in color "Champagne Pop," skyrocketed to selling out 25k units within the first 20 minutes of its launch on Sephora's website, Insider reports. (Jaclyn Hill later debuted her beauty brand in May 2019—and then had to solve quality control issues.)
