Estée Lauder Companies is facing a second class action lawsuit over "undisclosed collection of consumers’ biometric facial scans," ClassAction.org reports. The lawsuit is being proposed in Illinois.
The case states that consumers are concerned over facial-scanning technology, and claims that there are clear mandates set by the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA).
However, Estée Lauder has not informed or asked for consent from users of its Virtual Try-On tool, lawyers claim.
Many beauty brands now use virtual try-on tools—
- Fenty: Consumers can try on over 400 shades of makeup.
- Sally Hansen: Uses Perfect Corp.'s AgileHand technology to experience hundreds of nail options
- CoverGirl: Offers a mobile try-on experience
- L'Oreal Paris: Powered by ModiFace, The "Try On" augmented reality tool allows shoppers to virtually try on hundreds of beauty products, with a few clicks.
- Guerlain: Partnered with Voir, to use its innovative virtual makeup try-on tool that provides a true-to-life look.
