Ole Henriksen's Eye Stick is Made from Limestone

Ole Henriksen, a Kendo brand and part of LVMH (which just named a new CEO), has launched an eye stick with a package made from a unique material—limex. Limex is an innovative new sustainable packaging material made from limestone and inorganic materials. 

The stick package represents a first-to-market for a package made from limex.

Ole Henriksen's Banana Bright+ Vitamin CC Eye Stick is sold at Sephora. The retailer labels it "Clean at Sephora" and calls out its packaging, explaining to consumers, "This formula is packaged in recyclable 100% limex, with sustainably-sourced limestone to help reduce our environmental impact."

Japan-based TBM Co. supplies limex pellets, which can be molded into all types of packaging, from lipstick cases to jars. "Limex is a new material setting a precedent for the future of sustainability in the beauty industry and beyond," TBM states. 

Limex contains 50% or more inorganic material, such as calcium carbonate. It produces less greenhouse gas emissions than petroleum-based plastics during production. "It's a viable alternative to the ABS and PP resin typically used in cosmetic components and can be manufactured with existing plastic molding machinery," the supplier explains.

Limex is ideal for beauty packaging due to its luxurious matte texture and substantial feel.
