For the seventh consecutive year, Kao Corporation is recognized as a Supplier Engagement leader by the CDP. Kao’s recognition comes from its initiatives in reducing carbon emissions and addressing climate change throughout its supply chain.
The CDP is an international nonprofit organization that motivates companies and governments to reduce greenhouse emissions. Its Supplier Engagement Rating evaluates how effectively companies and their suppliers are working towards climate change goals.
CDP uses a questionnaire evaluation to gauge engagement efforts. The climate change questionnaire considers governance, value chain (scope 3) emissions, supplier engagement and target categories.
Kao Group’s ESG strategy, the Kirei Lifestyle Plan was established in 2019 and was designed to deliver a more sustainable way of living. The plan aims to have 100% of Kao products leave a full lifecycle environmental footprint that can be safely absorbed by nature by 2030.
In 2021 the Kao Group started its Mid-term Plan claiming to “protect future lives,” by promoting “sustainability as the only path.” Kao’s efforts have influenced suppliers to further understand climate change as well as the risks and opportunities relating to forests and water resources.
The Kao Group continues to reduce carbon emissions across a product’s lifestyle and integrates its ESG strategy into management practices.
