Mary Kay is at the forefront of global ocean conservation efforts as a participant in the 11th Annual World Ocean Summit & Expo in Lisbon, Portugal. For the second year in a row, Mary Kay stood as a bronze level sponsor by supporting a sustainable blue economy as a private sector representative and collaborator with The Nature Conservancy (TNC).
The general manager of Mary Kay Portugal, Sandra Silva participated in the “Developing Blue Nature-Based Projects” panel discussion. Silva shared insights on the need for collaborative efforts in marine conservation. She also highlighted the impact of incorporating gender perspectives in initiatives tackling climate change challenges and biodiversity loss.
The Economist Impact organized the Annual World Summit & Expo, which included over 200 expert speakers and an international audience to engage in discussions, workshops and “how to” sessions focused on actionable solutions for oceanic challenges.
Silva commented: "Mary Kay's participation at this year's World Ocean Summit was not only about reinforcing our dedication to ocean conservation but also about spotlighting the essential role of women in these efforts. We believe that our collective actions today are pivotal for the preservation of marine ecosystems.”
Since 1987, Mary Kay has been working to raise awareness of ocean health and coral reefs by supporting TNC. The company has contributed to projects for over three decades across 100 conservation projects across the globe. TNC aims to conserve 4 billion hectares of ocean by 2030—including coral reefs.
Global Ocean Director for TNC, Dr. Lizzie Mcleod said: “Our strong collaboration stands as a testament to the power of joining forces across the scientific community and the private sector to improve ocean health."
Mary Kay’s most recent projects include the Super Reef restoration in the Asia Pacific region and other projects in Hawaii, Palau, the Marshall Islands and Belize. These projects align with the company’s mission to enrich lives and ensure the longevity and health of marine environments for future generations.
