Coola, known as a pioneer in clean suncare and for its Southern Cali aesthetic, is celebrating 20 years with a redesign.
Chris Birchby founded the cult-favorite brand in 2004 while living in Santa Monica, California, when he decided to create a line of top-end organic sunscreens for surfers and sunbathers.
Now, Coola is redesigning its packaging to focus on sustainability—and its new look.
The brand refresh includes incorporating the iconic gradients from its award-winning face products, along with its signature "Pacific Ocean Blue" hue, across its entire portfolio.
"We have a brand-new look inspired by our Southern California roots," Coola posted on Instagram. See the new look in the photo above, of its spray sunscreen.
The aluminum cans feature a new gradient design—the same look Coola uses for its premium skincare packaging. The brand refresh includes incorporating the iconic gradients from its award-winning face products, along with its signature "Pacific Ocean Blue" hue, across its entire portfolio.
The brand says it is also using more post-consumer recycled material in its tubes and eliminating cartons.
Coola's formulas are made with as many certified organic ingredients as possible—at least 70%+ in every product. The brand will continue working with farmers to use sustainably farmed ingredients in an effort to help prevent waterway pollution and soil erosion caused by conventional farming systems.
Coola is also debuting a new tagline, "SPF Perfected." Christina Peng, CMO at Coola, comments, "We consider ourselves 'Serious about Sun'—which embodies our lifestyle in San Diego, but also how much we prioritize our science and innovation. Ultimately, we want to create the best skincare products that consumers can trust.”
