Ampacet PET Bottle Resemble Frosted Glass

A new product from Ampacet eliminates the time and expense of painting PET bottles by allowing processors to use a masterbatch to add a frosted look to stretch blow molded bottles and thermoformed containers made from extruded sheet.
    
“Our estimates indicate that molded frosted plastic bottles cost at least 90% less than those that are painted,” says Stuart Swain, market development specialist. “As an added benefit, end users gain a more durable package because the color occurs throughout the wall, so it cannot be scraped off, and the package will not shatter if dropped.”
    
The new masterbatch can be formulated for use with acrylic and polycarbonate.  It can also be formulated with Ampacet’s new PET binder system, Formula X, which eliminates pre-drying, so it can go directly from storage to machine.
    
Bottle appearance can range from translucent to opaque.  The masterbatch also allows the use of pearlescent and other special effect pigments in PET.

Impressions Uses MetaLustre Color Concentrates for Bottles

MetaLustre are color concentrates used by Impressions Packaging Corp., Peachtree City, GA, for a new line of heavy-walled stock PET bottles called PET Metal.   
    
MetaLustre color concentrates include Aluminum, Blue Steel, Brass, Copper, Gold and Pewter.  For each color, Teknor Color Company has developed multiple formulations designed to deliver an identical hue in packages made from various resins.  Formulations are available for PET, PETG, LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, PP (including clarified and copolymer types), ionomer, crystal PS, HIPS, SAN, ABS, PVC, PC, nylon and TPEs used in “soft-touch” applications.    
    
Each of the new concentrates is based on a proprietary blend of pigments and carrier resin developed by Teknor Color Company for a specific color in a specific base resin, according to Meritt M. Siers-Foster, senior research chemist.

Teknor Adds Three New PET Color Concentrates

Teknor Color Company’s PETek  color system is now available, not just as the original minibead product, but in new alternative forms that provide the same clarity and color uniformity in comparison with conventional color concentrates for PET.

Additions to the PETek product range include two standard-size bead and pellet series based on the same proprietary carrier-resin as in PETek minibeads, plus a traditional concentrate series based on a standard PET-resin carrier. Like the minibeads, introduced two years ago, the new concentrates can be used for the full spectrum of film, sheet, bottles and other molded products. The four series differ little in cost. The three new PETek series all come in standard bead or pellet sizes rather than as minibeads, but they address different processing requirements. Novapak Emulates Mason Jar

Novapak’s new PET 26 oz. hot-fill container simulates traditional Mason-style glass jars. It has a wide neck for easy removal of contents and an indentation on both sides for easy handling and pouring. Ribs on the front and back, together with a concave bottom, provide strength and maintain shape when the container expands during hot filling.
    
Compared with glass Mason-style jars, the PET jar significantly reduces breakage during production and shipping, and on retail and consumer shelves, according to the company.
