Zorbit Creates Packaging for Lauren Luke
Broadcasting from a webcam in her bedroom through YouTube, Lauren Luke, of South Shields, UK, became a wildly popular makeup artist, with nearly 40 million people tuning in to watch her makeup tutorials. In a joint venture, global marketing firm Anomaly and Zorbit Resources (now Maesa) approached Luke to not only create her own beauty brand, but also to invent a new business model of marketing color cosmetics—using YouTube as a sales platform similar to QVC & HSN. Zorbit and Anomaly created SoHo Beauty by Lauren Luke; Anomaly spearheaded the brand conceptualization, supported by the design of Studio Zorbit. Packaging features simple, floral line work with bursts of edgy, spray-painted color on a rich, deep black. The colors of the flowers tie into the shades of each kit. Zorbit manufactured the packaging and Mana handled the product fill and assembly.

Transparent Packaging Inc. Adds Scent Feature
Transparent Packaging Inc., Montreal, Quebec, has introduced a scented, transparent packaging box that not only allows consumers to see the product, but according to the firm, also entices the consumer to pick the product up off the shelf to smell it—thus getting the product a step closer to being placed in the shopping cart. Transparent says this multi-sensory innovation allows brand owners and consumer product manufacturers to attract consumers with another of their product’s key attributes—its fragrance—without the addition of a secondary paper scratch and sniff sticker, which it says can have a denigrating effect on the packaging image.

TricorBraun’s Laminate TubesSqueeze Out Savings
New laminate tubes from TricorBraun were designed to help manufacturers squeeze out up to 20% additional savings over traditional extruded tubes. Accord-ing to the company, not only are laminate tubes more economical, these are also manufactured with a new technology that reduces the appearance of the seam. The seam in a conventional extruded tube, says a company spokesperson, is a design deterrent and is regarded as an important shortcoming by cosmetic manufacturers. Graphic improvements are possible with the laminate tubes because they can be printed flat. This gives manufacturers the opportunity to use holographic embellishments, which were never possible with extruded tubes.
