(L-R): CIBS president Mario Magali, Sandra B. Schneider, Mike Warford. |
At the August CIBS luncheon, Sandra B. Schneider, president of DougMar Consultants an international regulatory affairs firm, gave a presentation discussing the importance of compliance with the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act. These two laws prohibit the marketing of adulterated or misbranded cosmetics in interstate commerce. She explained how terms such as fragrance-free and unscented may not be synonymous, and described how costly packaging issues could have been prevented if the regulations of the aforementioned laws had been known to the manufacturer. The pending United States legislation involving the mining of “conflict minerals” in some African countries was also discussed. This legislation affects all public companies.
This was the second of a series of three CIBS informative luncheon meetings, which featured a guest speaker. The first speaker to headline the luncheons was FIT’s professor of cosmetics and fragrance marketing Virginia Bonofiglio.
