HBA Preview 2006

It’s time for HBA Health and Beauty America Expo, slated for Sept. 12-14 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City. The 14th annual event features more than 600 exhibitors from 60 countries, in addition to a full roster of conferences and educational programs.

HBA will kick off at 9 p.m. in the Special Events hall with a keynote presentation from Eric Thoreux, president of Coty Beauty Americas. He will present on Brand Building Innovations.

The exhibition opens its doors following the keynote address. Suppliers of packaging, private label and contract manufacturing, raw materials, ingredients, point of purchase displays, finished goods, promotional accessories, design and consulting will be on hand to present attendees with the latest products and ideas related to the cosmetic and toiletry industries.

Industry Awards Dinner

The 5th annual International Package Design Awards (IPDA) dinner honors companies and individuals who have made significant contributions to the beauty industry and packaging innovation. Finalists have been selected in different categories and channels of distribution. All category leaders and the grand prize recipient will be announced at the dinner, held Sept. 12 at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers. To view this year’s IPDA finalists, see page 44.

Individuals being honored at the dinner include Joseph Gubernick of Estée Lauder, John Butcher of Revlon, dermatoligist Zoe Draelos and the product development team for Nice ‘n Easy Root Touch-up.

Special Educational Programs

HBA’s special educational programs target individuals involved with every step of beauty.

For packaging enthusiasts, HBA and RFID Product News will offer a session titled Smart Packaging: Opportunities in Merchandising, Quality Control and Brand Security.

The first annual HBA Regulatory Summit will commence with keynote speaker Bruce N. Ames, followed by a professionally moderated panel and a regulatory speaker program featuring specialists on current and emerging global regulations, toxicologists, legal regulatory experts and CTFA experts.

A session titled Packaging — Technical Dispensing will provide attendees with a broad overview of technology from the world’s leading suppliers of dispensing devices, who will showcase their latest innovations.

Inside Beauty

Now in its second year as a dedicated trade show and conference, Inside Beauty is dedicated to the concept of “beauty from the inside out.” Co-located with HBA, the three-day event serves all channels targeting beauty, health and wellness from concept to consumer.

Highlights From the Exhibit Floor

PCITX: Personal Care Ingredients and Technology Pavilion is where technical and marketing personnel along with product development teams converge to discover the latest developments in ingredients technologies, bioengineering and delivery systems for creating the next generation of cosmetics, skin care, hair care and cosmeceutical products. This year’s PCITX is larger than before, with new exhibitors from suppliers of botanicals to instrumentation and everything in between, according to HBA.

This year there will be many international and special pavilions at the exhibition. The HBA exhibit floor features a growing list of international pavilions and individual company presences that represent manufacturers from China, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Thailand and beyond.There will also be a RFID/Smart Packaging Pavilion and the Private Label Pavilion at Inside Beauty.
