Hundreds of beauty products vied for this year’s 10th annual recognition of outstanding package design.
The HBA International Package Design Awards (IPDA)—which will be handed out on Tuesday, September 28 at 4:45pm, from Beauty Packaging and Happi’s booth No. 1006 at HBA Global Expo—is one of the highlights of the annual, three-day event held at the Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. The awards ceremony celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2010, once again naming the year’s hottest designs in cosmetics, fragrance, personal care, skin care and sustainable packaging.
Finalists for the IPDA Awards were announced in early August, and the Category Winners and the Grand Award will be revealed from the show floor, where the award finalists and winners are displayed in the IPDA Showcase. Entries were accepted from various size companies that submitted designs introduced for retail from October 1, 2009 through August 31, 2010, including suppliers, design firms and brand manufacturers. Designs that have been refreshed, improved, or offer new features or technologies are also eligible to participate.
Judging for the IPDA is carried out by a committee of 100 industry professionals—designers, suppliers and members of the media. IPDA submissions are evaluated on the following: originality, design concept, creative use of new materials, components and decorating processes, technical competency and effective brand messaging.
This year, there are four finalists in each of the nine categories: Cosmetics Mass, Cosmetics Prestige, Fragrance Mass, Fragrance Prestige, Personal Care Mass, Personal Care Prestige, Skin Care Mass, Skin Care Prestige and Green Packaging.
