“The 21st-century Rouge Automatique is created for a mischievous and stylish woman. In one flick of a finger, she reveals the lipstick that will embellish her smile and make her glow with radiance,” says Olivier Échaudemaison, Guerlain’s creative director, about the brand’s new long-lasting lip color. While searching the luxury brand’s archives, Échaudemaison was captivated by the original “Rouge Automatique,” an Art Deco design created in 1936. At the time, the lipstick packaging was revolutionary with its single-hand push to reveal luxurious color. Olivier’s current interpretation revolves around a sleek, structural, gold chamber—re-innovating the piece as the first lipstick without a cap and with an application technique requiring only a single hand. The new spring shades are available this month for $35 each at select department stores.
