The MakeUp in NewYork show will feature an Innovation Tree, and the winners of its Innovation Award are being announced at the show on September 7th. While viewing the submissions, the competition’s judging panel noted a few trends.
Pauline Bonafous, marketing product manager, Carlin International Group and Innovation Award judge, comments, "Regarding packaging, the products submitted stand out this year in particular because of their travel size format — all-in-one packagings, compact and life facilitators.”
Bonafous continues, “Nomadic, full-service products that answer a growing need among consumers are a daily efficiency — with products that simplify their beauty routine and do not interfere in the hectic pace of modern lifestyle."
Jean-Louis Mathiez, founder of Cinqpats and also an Innovation Award judge, says, “the packs submitted, in quantity and quality, show that innovation is the driver of make-up.”
Mathiez names a few more trends in cosmetic packaging: airless packs; packages that are easy to open and close; pens and brushes that adapt to different formulation textures and deliver a more precise application; and designs that help to convey a product’s new features.
