Pretty on the outside; pretty and functional on the inside—with an array of colors so users can instantly change up their looks. Makeup palettes are hotter than ever with social media users always looking to alter their appearance and create endless looks.

With an instagrammable photo a must, the packaging too, has embraced a new level of luxe, with accessory-like compacts reaching new levels as far as materials and deco techniques used. 

A number of eyeshadow palettes offer usage instructions for application and layering, as well as routines to follow for day and night looks. A long-lasting formula is an eye-power essential.

Too Faced Chocolate Gold Palette

For Too Faced’s luxurious gold and cocoa powder infused eye shadow palette called Chocolate Gold, the brand “dipped” their original Chocolate Bar palette into gold; the shadows smell as good as they look and are created with real gold.

Cargo Havana Palette

Each season, Cargo Cosmetics journeys to a different destination as a nod to the free spirit of the independent traveler and this spring – they “visited” Havana to launch “Havana Nights.”

A versatile and wearable eye shadow palette with 12 long-lasting neutral and vibrant shades inspired by the stunning Spanish colonial architecture, the vivacious colors of street arts, and the spectacular cars of Havana. The palette is laid out in three expertly coordinated quads and six duos to easily achieve day and night looks.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Coconut Fantasy

Marc Jacobs Beauty introduced its Coconut Fantasy palette, and one color option is called “Fantascene.”

What’s the packaging like? The ultra-luxe, super-plush eyeshadow palette is a glossy white compact with rose gold accents.

Charlotte Tilbury Instant Eye Palette by HCP

HCP UK created The Instant Eye Palette for Charlotte Tilbury. (The palette is shown above, on left).

The fully customized rose-gold metallic palette has a ‘satisfying’ magnetic closing feature. Combined with the ultra-chic elongated, slim profile, HCP says, “the brand has set a new benchmark of opulence.”

The cover is custom embossed with the brand’s signature starburst design and logo, while the insert holds 12 eye-shadow pans with a proposed look for each color group screen printed alongside.

Urban Decay Naked Heat

Give in to the heat of the moment with 12 all-new, can’t-live-without, amber-hued neutrals—including warm browns, burnt oranges and rich siennas. From a super-smooth red-brown matte and a glimmering copperto a deep, shifty bronze, this palette has everything you need to create sultry daytime looks, intensely smoky nighttime looks and everything in between.

With a palette this hot, the packaging had to be perfect. Every single element speaks to the heat coming off this collection of shades, even down to how you open the box.

The artwork on the case seems as if you’re looking through vertical blinds into a hot, steamy sunset. Designed like a matchbox, the box slides open to reveal the palette, and underneath, a graphic of 12 burned matches. What’s more, it includes a full-size mirror and a double-ended brush.

Smashbox Cover Shots Eye Shadow Palettes

‘Instagrammable packaging’ is a huge trend,” says Jill Tomandl, vice president, product development & innovation, at Smashbox.

Tomandl tells Beauty Packaging that Smashbox has focused on creating packaging that stands out in social media. For instance, “Powder appears to burst when you swivel the video lenticular, compact lid of the Smashbox Cover Shots Eye Shadow Palettes,” she explains. BH Galaxy Chic Baked Eyeshadow Palette

BH Cosmetics, a digitally native, e-commerce color cosmetics brand, features attention-grabbing palettes, such as Galaxy—a chic baked eyeshadow palette with 18 ‘cosmic’ shades.

Bésame’s 1937 Storybook Palette

Twenty eye-shadows in a palette modeled after a storybook is part of Bésame’s Snow White Collection, which celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Disney film.

The “book” comes complete with a green satin bookmark to keep your place. The storybook opens to reveal the “magic mirror” — an oval-shaped mirror inset into the inside front cover.

PUR x BoxyCharm Palette

The PUR x BoxyCharm palette has happy colors with a velvety finish. PUR Cosmetics recently collaborated with BOXYCHARM, a monthly beauty subscription box, to unveil this limited-edition palette for its March 'BaeCation' box. The $21 box spotlights an exclusive PUR palette that includes six creamy mattes and six foiled shimmer eyeshadow shades - making it a travel essential for spring and summer.

NARS Cosmetics' NARSissist Cheek Palette

Not for the eyes, but for the cheeks, NARS Cosmetics NARSissist Cheek Palette allows you to sculpt, shape, and glow with a wardrobe of blushes. A curated selection of six must-have shades in each limited-edition mirrored palette. Warm it up with hot bronzes and reds in Unfiltered I; cool down with soft pinks and golds in Unfiltered II. Wear individually or blend together to customize your look.

NextGenNEO Palette by Integrated Packaging Solutions

Integrated Packaging Solutions’ palette concept that is unlike anything presently on the market, according to the supplier, and on-target with market trends. The palettes feature secure magnetic closures and UV-protected surfaces.

The highly reflective surfaces of NEO palettes have a tactile and visual appeal that “transcend typical packaging,” the supplier says, and enable stunning full color graphics, including holographic treatments.

The patented NEO material was originally conceived for high-end entertainment packaging. It is a composite and specialized assembly of plastic, foil and board.

Manufactured in the U.S., the concept offers flexibility in size and shape. The package is reusable, and its magnetic makeup pans can be replaced or mixed-and-matched. “It is as functionally effective as it is beautiful,” the supplier says.
