One of the most talked about beauty industry events— Cosmetic Executive Women’s Beauty Insiders’ Choice Awards Product Demo—is slated for newness this year as event organizers take the Demo to the next level.
The sold-out event, to be held Wednesday, March 6, will this year be themed “The Industry’s Biggest Beauty Counter” and will mirror the format of a department store. Demo entries and sponsor activities will be displayed on two levels exclusively at the Metropolitan Pavilion [125 West 18th Street, New York, NY], and will have a store directory, directional signage and store guides posted throughout the venue.
More than 2,000 CEW members are expected to attend the show, where they will vote on and judge more than 670 products launched in 2012 from 31 different categories, including several new ones, such as Lip Treatment and Skincare Tools. Attendees judge products based on innovation, delivery system and packaging.
Carlotta Jacobson, president of CEW, says, “Winning a CEW Beauty Award is a very prestigious honor, which is why more than 300 top beauty brands are competing. The Awards have become an invaluable resource for consumers, who recognize that the CEW seal stands for a truly innovative and effective beauty product because it is the only award selected by those who know beauty’s best—the industry insiders.”
One of the most exciting aspects of this year’s Demo looks to be CEW’s partnership with QVC, to be called QVC Beauty Quest. The initiative will have QVC scouting the event to identify the “next big thing” in beauty from the 600-plus Beauty Awards entries. Six QVC Beauty Quest finalists will be announced in April and the QVC Beauty Quest winner will be announced at this year’s CEW Beauty Awards Luncheon on May 18—and will ultimately be featured on QVC.
Overall Beauty Award product finalists will also be announced in April. CEW’s Board of Governors will then vote to determine the winners, which will also be announced at the May 18 event at the Waldorf-Astoria in Manhattan. Ballots for both the finalists and winners are cast electronically and tabulated by Ernst & Young LLP.
