J-Beauty arrived in the U.S. in November with NatureLab, a Japanese haircare brand influenced by Zen Buddhism and the Wabi Sabi principle. Products are designed to promote natural hair beauty from the inside-out, and use botanical stem cells from apple, argan, bamboo, and grape, along with natural plant extracts to improve hair texture, shine and volume.
NatureLab turned to upscale fragrance packaging for inspiration. The brand infused the ethos of its products into the design, focusing on Japanese minimalism and the science of beauty. Bottles are shaped like lab equipment, made out of recyclable PET plastic. The look was intended to not only relay the overall philosophy of the brand, but also to elevate it from drug store brands at a similar price point ($12-16 each), and make it Instagrammable, too.
