Unilever has announced that Alan Jope, who has served as president of the company’s Beauty and Personal Care division since 2014, replaces current CEO Paul Polman as of January 1. Polman is retiring after serving at the consumer goods giant for more than a decade.
Jope has been largely responsible for boosting Unilever’s cosmetic offerings, adding a Prestige division with high-end skincare brands including Ren and Dermalogica—and making the acquisition of Dollar Shave Club. The division was also responsible for generating eco-friendly, Millennial-appealing personal care brand Love Beauty and Planet.
Unilever’s personal-care division was the company’s largest last year, with sales of about $24 billion, almost double the food business and just under half the company’s total revenue.
