Wellness and beauty have never been more intertwined. That’s why this year CEW has incorporated wellness brands into its must-attend 2019 Beauty Awards Product Demo, creating a specific exhibition space where CEW members can experience interactive demonstrations from companies positioning wellness as top of mind. Some examples of partners exhibiting during this year’s Product Demo include City Wellness Collective and Calm City Meditation. In addition, Wellness has been added as a category for this year’s Beauty Awards, including product entries for the Beauty Wellness Supplements and Aromatherapy segments.
“CEW recognizes the importance and influence wellness is having on the beauty industry, and the 2019 Beauty Awards program will reflect that,” said Carlotta Jacobson, president of CEW.
To entice entries from the beauty industry and Indie companies, newer categories such as Indie hair, niche fragrances and ingredients and formulations (for suppliers) will remain for 2019. The ingredients and formulations award will be sponsored by NYSCC. In addition, Home Scent has been added to CEW’s general category of awards.
For a second year, CEW will partner with Preen.me to add an influencer component to the event whereby trending micro-influencers will attend and cover the event to amplify consumer reach. Preen.me will also be the sponsor of two new awards—The Rising Influencer Award in Color and Skin Care.
The Product Demo, to be held February 28 at the Metropolitan Pavilion and the Altman Building in Manhattan, expects to present nearly 800 products from more than 350 brands within 40 different categories. An estimated 2,500 CEW members will attend the Product Demo to vote on their favorite products. These Finalists, to be announced April 2, will then be voted on by CEW’s Board of Governors, as well as by select industry experts. Winners will be announced May 17 at the 2019 CEW Beauty Awards luncheon at the New York Hilton Midtown. Ballots for both the finalists and winners are cast electronically and tabulated by Ernst & Young LLP.
Considered the industry’s ultimate beauty counter, the Product Demo is a place for discovery, where beauty industry insiders walk aisles and aisles of tabletop product demonstrations, judging items based on innovation.
The Indie Beauty Awards, presented by Financo, will acknowledge the most innovative Indie companies in hair, skincare and makeup; there will also be an overall Indie brand award. Also part of this year’s awards is the Sustainability Excellence Award, presented by Firmenich, which will recognize brands’ sustainability efforts. Once again, QVC’s Beauty Quest will select one brand to be featured on QVC.
As before, a Best Seller Award will be given within the mass and prestige channels as determined by Nielsen and NPD, respectively; the Iconic Award will recognize a trendsetting product that has created a new category.
Attendees will have more time to peruse product entries: this year, doors open at 5:30 p.m. for all CEW members; Flash Pass holders, who pay a higher ticket price, will have access to the Product Demo at 4:30 p.m., allowing for an extra 30 minutes to walk the event floor.
