DISC has announced that its packaging collection for APA Beauty’s new line of cosmetic dental products was honored with a Silver Award in the American Packaging Design competition sponsored by Graphic Design USA (GDUSA). Now in its 10th year, this awards program spotlights compelling and beautifully executed brand packaging.
"We are elated to be numbered among this year’s award recipients, selected by GDUSA’s distinguished panel of judges for design excellence and high production value,” said John Rebecchi, senior vice president, marketing & new business development and director for DISC. “We are especially happy to bring home a win for APA Beauty’s new line of oral care and beauty products. DISC's sales and production team collaborated with APA and their design agency CMYK+White to create eye-catching packaging that reflects the brand’s luxurious, alluring and best-in-class messaging.”
Rebecchi says the collection consists of eight elegant folding cartons with clean, sophisticated graphics in black plus a special PMS mint color, accented by a gold-foil stamped APA logo. The cartons were printed on 18 pt. Tango SBS (solid-bleached sulfate), which results in high color fidelity and visual appeal. A soft-touch coating was added to provide a smooth, sensuous experience. Each package opens to reveal a unique, luxurious gold Mylar interior that reflects the brand’s exclusive, high-end message.
“We were initially given a white, film laminated box made in Asia and asked to match it,” said David Wolf, sales representative. “But we ultimately switched to the soft, tactile feel of the soft-touch coating, which delivered a more sensuous effect. The gold Mylar reveal of the interior added an engaging sense of surprise and luxury, which both the client and design agency loved.”
GDUSA's American Packaging Awards competition is in its 10th year of paying tribute to the best in packaging within the creative community. This year’s judges evaluated more than 2,000 entries (a 7% increase over last year) in 19 categories, including Beauty + Personal Care, Health + Wellness, and Luxury Packaging. The top 15% (315) were celebrated for design excellence that delivered and promoted their brand’s essence. The best of this year’s American Packaging Awards will be showcased in GDUSA’s April issue in print, online and via email, e-newsletter and social media, as well as the magazine’s iPad App.
