Shiseido Americas recently announced its new focus on color cosmetics, bringing on ex-Coty executive Jill Scalamandre to head up a new research division called Global Makeup Center of Excellence, located in the company’s New York headquarters. At the top of Scalamandre’s to-do list is expanding the color cosmetics business across the company’s brands, including Shiseido, Bare Escentuals, Francois Nars, Clé de Peau Beauté and Buxom, a Shiseido brand sold in Sephora.
Now, the Japan-based company has announced a definitive agreement with Alticor Inc. to acquire its wholly-owned subsidiary Gurwitch Products, LLC , which markets global prestige cosmetics and skin care brands. Annual net sales for Gurwitch were reported at $175 million in the fiscal year ending 2015.
Under the terms of the agreement, Shiseido Americas will acquire 100% of Gurwitch, including its portfolio of leading prestige brands: Laura Mercier, a global brand of prestige color cosmetics, skincare, and body & bath products, and luxury skincare brand RéVive.
