Hair towel brand Aquis is carving out a new niche category in hair care. Several of its hair towel styles are at Urban Outfitters and Bloomingdale's, and now the brand is launching at Sephora on July 17th.
Aquis was launched by husband-and-wife team Britta Cox and Suveen Sahib last November. The towel will "suck water out of the hair immediately to minimize damage," the brand states.
"It’s resonating really well with Millennials,” says Britta Cox. Suveen Sahib adds, “Naturally curly hair is becoming big, or the fact that you’re more comfortable with the wash-and-wear attitude with hair.”
Benefits To The Hair
The towels are made out of proprietary fibers that won’t tug on fragile wet hair, according to Cox, who says it is not microfiber. The Aquis towel has a weave that creates air pockets, which ae designed to draw water from the hair, through to the towel.
“Bath towel has a much larger fiber, and it doesn’t get the water out,” Cox said. “It’s very critical to get the water out quickly, but in the most gentle way possible.”
Why? Since hair contains keratin, it absorbs a lot of water - then stretches and breaks, Cox explains.
Raising Funds For Expansion
Aquis is planning to expand - and is looking to raise a Series A Venture Capital round, targeting $3 million to $5 million. The business is tracking for $5 million in sales for 2016, according to industry sources.
