Berry Global Group, Inc., headquartered in Evansville, IN has announced its sustainability strategy through a company initiative named Impact 2025. As part of the initiative, Berry will focus on further increasing the positive impact it has through their products, performance, and partners with a long-term plan for the year of 2025. The company aims to support their broader sustainability efforts by highlighting the following areas:
Products: The company will minimize product impacts and optimize design, with light weight products; by designing 100% of packaging to be reusable, recyclable, or compostable; with sustainable sourcing to increase recycled content; and encourage the development of renewable materials.
Performance: Berry will minimize operational impacts (normalized for production) through climate change, by reducing greenhouse gas emissions 25% by 2025 versus the company’s 2016 baseline; continuous improvement in reducing landfill waste 5% per year and energy and water consumption by 1% per year. Berry’s Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) will prevent resin loss through OCS; the company will also implement OCS at acquisition sites within the first year.
Partners: Berry will maximize positive impacts by engaging partners on key issues to end plastic waste by expanding and modernizing waste infrastructure to increase recovery and prevent loss of plastic into the environment; engaging the plastics industry on OCS. They will also aim to limit global warming by increasing renewable energy, expanding the use of plastic in place of alternative materials, and promoting science-based targets.
