Indie beauty brand, DefineMe, is collaborating with Disney to launch a range of perfumes inspired by various Disney Princesses. The first to launch is the Ariel fragrance, which will be revealed at BeautyCon in Los Angeles on August 10, 2019 in celebration of The Little Mermaid’s 30th anniversary.
“We were beyond thrilled to collaborate with Disney this past year,” said Jennifer McKay-Newton, CEO and creative director of DefineMe. “Having grown up with and loving all things Disney, the opportunity to create something so special such as a fragrance inspired by their Disney Princess characters is truly exciting for not only our brand, but me personally.”
DefineMe drew their inspiration from the sea as well as Ariel’s natural sense of adventure and curiosity when deciding upon ingredients and notes to use for the fragrance. This beachy, fresh and intoxicating scent is meant to evoke Ariel’s sense of wanderlust that starts with a splash of citrusy neroli and bergamot, flowing into a sweet floral with jasmine and lilac, then crashing with a beauty blend of tonka bean, coconut and driftwood.
The packaging has a cylindrical shape with a mermaid tail relief pattern wrapping around the bottle, waves on the bottom and a shell cap. Every detail has a purpose and is meant to tell the story of Princess Ariel.
McKay-Newton designed the bottle and cap herself. “I worked with our in-house artist Megan Moberly to create sketches and concept art,” she said. “After that, we created a 3D model and 3D print to share with the team at Disney and select sales partners. Their response was great, they loved it. Next, we turned to the talented team from Verescence to create a production CAD drawing for their mold makers in France. The shell cap was made by another great partner, Metal Dynamics.”
The Ariel fragrance will be available for purchase in two sizes starting Fall 2019:
Retailers include DefineMeFragrance.com, Ulta.com, ShopDisney.com, and select Disney Stores. For more information, please visit the DefineMe website.
