John G. Ledes, the founder of The Ledes Group and owner of Parfums Robert Piguet, died on Tuesday, October 1, at his home in Katonah, N.Y. He would have been 94 on October 14.
A veteran in the beauty industry, Ledes founded the March of Dimes Beauty Ball and the annual BeautyCares Dream Ball. He is also credited with playing an influential role in the creation of Look Good, Feel Better.
WWD reports that Ledes is fondly remembered for the black-tie parties he threw in Paris, which began during the 70s -- bringing together American and French manufacturers.
Ledes was born in the Bronx and attended Yale University and Columbia University Law School. He served in the United States Marines as a first lieutenant.
He is survived by his sons Richard and George, and his daughters Sara Aiken and Bayly Ledes Daviau.
George Ledes, John's son, posted details about the memorial service on Instagram, writing:
"Thank you for the outpouring of love and affection you have all shown for my father, our family and myself. A funeral service is planned for 11am on Oct 12th at St Matthew’s Bedford. All are welcome."
