Credo Beauty, MOB Beauty, Canadian retailer Hudson’s Bay and Element Packaging have united to create Pact, a not-for-profit initiative set up to reduce cosmetic packaging waste through recycling and upcycling—and ultimately, circularity.
The initiative will also enable packaging designers and manufacturers to consider recyclability in the design and production process.
Starting on April 22nd, a Pact recycling bin will be located in Credo Beauty’s 10 stores and in 20 Hudson's Bay locations in Canada. (Credo shoppers can receive 10 reward points for every product recycled.) A mail-in recycling program is also in the works. Consumers are encouraged to drop off any of their empty beauty containers, regardless of brand: all pumps and caps; plastic tubes; lipsticks and lip glosses; eye and lip pencils; mascara tubs; plastic compacts; colored glass bottles and jars, as well as plastic bottles and jars "smaller than a yogurt cup."
