Less than a decade ago, KDC (Knowlton Development Corporation)—now kdc/one—based in Canada, had a reputation as a leading contract manufacturer and custom formulator for the consumer goods industry. Following an aggressive M&A program over the past decade, with acquisitions in all areas of beauty and personal care (62% of kdc/one business)—and now home care as well—the company has become a global powerhouse with international acquisitions in the cosmetics sector including Benchmark Cosmetics Labs in California, ALKOS in France, Swallowfield in the UK, Paristy in China—and notably, innovative packaging and full-service beauty leader, The HCT Group, in Santa Monica, CA.
kdc/one now operates 24 manufacturing facilities and 26 R&D labs and innovation centers around the world, catering to cosmetic clients’ packaging formulation and production needs—from start to finish, regionalization to globalization, and anything in-between. Categories served include color cosmetics, skincare, bath and body and hair care.
Sustainable Solutions
With sustainable packaging front and center in today’s beauty industry, Denis Maurin, Global President of Sales and Innovation, HCT Group, part of kdc/one, says, “Almost 100% of our tools have a sustainable story—and we try to combine two to three aspects.” Maurin recently shared some of HCT Group’s notable successes in this area, as well as a glimpse of what lies ahead. Solutions include crimpless tubes, mono-materials, luxe bio-materials, click pens, tin jars and palettes, cooling applicator tips, refillables and advanced deco techniques.
