Izzy Zero Waste Beauty says it has launched "the world's first zero-waste mascara." The packaging is reusable, recyclable, and certified CarbonNeutral.
How does it work? Izzy Mascara is a subscription service. Every three months, a fresh mascara is mailed direct-to-consumers with no outer packaging and ships in a reusable mailer made with upcycled materials.
The sleek silver mascara tube is s made from long-lasting, medical-grade stainless steel—designed to be cleaned and refilled over 10,000 times. The tubes are medically sterilized before each refill. "You never have to throw away another mascara for the rest of your life," the Izzy states. "Our membership model generates zero waste, from start to finish."
The tubes don't contain any plastic. The wipers and brushes are plastic, so they are reground and recycled at Izzy's facility.
If you're wondering about water usage, the company says it has a patent-pending antibacterial cleansing process that allows for the water to be reused, not dumped into the ocean.
In addition, the formula is 'clean,' vegan, cruelty-free, and certified organic.
Shannon Goldberg, Founder of Izzy Zero Waste Beauty
Industry veteran Shannon Goldberg founded Izzy Zero Waste Beauty, with a mission to "change the beauty industry's relationship with the environment by demonstrating that consumable does not have to mean disposable.""As a Millennial mom, I wanted to provide my daughter with truly sustainable beauty options, ones that would go beyond the standards of the current clean movement," explains Goldberg.
"By 2050, the oceans are projected to contain more plastic than fish. If we want to give our children a fighting chance tomorrow, then we need to do something radical about reversing this cycle today."
Izzy Zero Waste Mascara is one of the only beauty products in the world to meet the criteria outlined by The CarbonNeutral Protocol, the brand states.
