Ariana Grande, a new coach on NBC's The Voice, is the latest celebrity getting into the beauty business. The Grammy-Award-winning multi-platinum recording artist has already made her mark on the fragrance world—and may soon do the same for makeup.
There's a brilliant teaser campaign causing a fan frenzy. Fan account @ArianaWorldHQ , and others, are tweeting photos of a billboard in Times Square that says "R.E.M. coming soon." Take a look at REMbeauty.com, and you'll find the same message (A screenshot from the site is shown above). Fans first began talking about the line several days ago on Reddit, before the news broke.
On Instagram, @r.e.m.beauty doesn't have any posts, but has attracted over 89k followers in just a couple of days. Fans quickly guessed the new account was tied to the singer-songwriter, since R.E.M. is the name of a song on Grande's 2018 album Sweetener. R.E.M. is also the fragrance Grande launched last September, when she said the name was from one of her favorite songs.
The 28-year-old pop star's company, Thunder Road, Inc., filed a trademark application for R.E.M. Beauty back in March, with the USPTO. In addition to covering a variety of products, the company also filed trademark applications for specific product names, such as Interstellar Highlighter Topper, At The Border Line Kohl Eyeliner Pencil, and Flourishing Lengthening Mascara.
Newsweek was one of the first to confirm the rumors that Grande's new makeup line would launch soon—possibly within 10 days—stating, "the songwriter's best friend Doug Middlebrook shared a photo to his Instagram Story of him posing next to the billboard, tagging Grande."
Grande's fragrances have been extremely successful. Her new perfume, God is a Woman, is an all-natural clean formula with sustainable packaging.
Grande's debut scent launched in 2015, Ari—and it, along with Sweet Like Candy, Moonlight, and several other limited-editions, grossed over $150 million in retail sales across the globe within two years.
The photo of Grande above, on the left, was posted on Instagram by Grande's makeup artist, Ash K Holm. No news yet whether or not the celebrity MUA is involved with the new line, but Holm recently worked with Buxom Cosmetics to create the "Ash K Holm palette," available at Ulta Beauty stores.
Ariana Grande's Memorable Perfume Bottles—and the Company Behind Them
We don't know yet which company/manufacturer/distributor is behind Grande's new makeup line, but Luxe Brands, founded by Tony Bajaj in 2014, is responsible for the success of her fragrance portfolio. The out-of-the-box bottle designs are fun, quirky, memorable, and distinctive. Here's a look back at a few of our favorite:
- A cracked eggshell? Yes, it was... Take a look at Thank you, Next
- A vintage-inspired look for Ari by Ariana Grande
- The pop star's 4th fragrance, Cloud
Luxe Brands also developed the fun "juice-box" fragrances for Cosmo Magazine's collection. The "juice box botles," and many of Grande's fragrance bottles were designed by the creative duo at PowerShovel Creative.)
