Getting a product to go viral and then sell out, is probably every beauty brand's goal—and Clinique recently hit that goal. Clinique's Almost Lipstick in Black Honey is currently sold out on the brand's website in both the U.S. and UK, and it's because of TikTok.
The hashtag #cliniqueblackhoney has 16.2 million views on TikTok, and counting.
The brand was quick to jump on the trend by posting a video featuring its brand ambassador Emilia Clarke, shown above, discovering the color for the first time.
The iconic lip color debuted in 1971—but it was in a pot. Now, the sleek silver slender tube makes a much better impression in a video. Describing the universally flattering hue, Glossy writes, "Carol Phillips, a Clinique co-founder and a former editor at Vogue, is credited with having created the shade in an attempt to create a ‘black turtleneck’ for the lip."
Glamour UK reports that Mikayla Nogueira told her 7.5 million TikTok followers that she used to sell at least one Black Honey lipstick a day when she worked at Ulta, but the buyers were all "usually a maturer woman," she says in her video. She continues, "...so to see younger women using it on TikTok is so interesting to me." The social media platform is causing a frenzy for the color among Gen Z.
Black Honey, currently in the brand's 'Almost Lipstick' formulation, is sheer and moisturizing. It is adaptable, and will look great on many different natural lip shades.
